Chatel & Abondance Valley
Chatel remains a relatively undiscovered gem of a ski area and is characterised by a great all round skiing experience. With the quiet slopes, queuing at the predominantly modern express chairlifts is rare. With superb, friendly service in the restaurants and bars in our lovely village, we can almost guarantee a fantastic experience.
Chatel is linked to 8 other ski resorts in the Portes du Soleil, making this the largest ski area intheworld. With Alpine Breaks’ expertise in orientating you around the ski area,we will find the best suited conditions and areas for your ability.
The skiing is massively varied and will cater for beginner to those searching for the ultimate powder experience. Chatel is situated only 1 hour and 25 minutes from Geneva airport so is ideal if you are averse to the long transfers to other resorts.
Winter Activities in Chatel
Chatel in the Portes du Soleil and the surrounding areas offer you the opportunity to explore the many activities on offer.
- Mountain Biking – Chatel Bike Park notoriously reknown as one of the best biking areas in Europe.
- Hiking – Whether you use the lift system to elevate you higher or just take gentle walks around the lake, all abilities are catered for.
- Zip Wire – The Fantasticable sees you whizz from one mountain to the next 272m in the air.
- Adventure Park – A super adventure park with zip wires and climbing frames from tree to trees ideal for children.
- Via Ferrata – Climb the rocks attaching yourself to the wall and ascending up to 250m.
- Lakes – Relax around Lake Vonnes in Chatel or go down to Lake Geneva and hire a boat or explore the beautiful villages and towns on the waters edge.
- Festivals – Traditions come alive in the valley with many festivals celebrating the cows and the heritage of the valley. Very lively and include lots of alcohol and cheese.
- Thermal Baths and Spa – A beautiful open and indoor facility for those whom wish to relax by the pool or even get a massage.
- Yoga – Many private instructors as well as classes offered in the village.
The Summer in Chatel season usually lasts from June through to the beginning of September, but remember it is always possible to come inbetween seasons and enjoy the peace and tranquility.
The Alpine Breaks Experience
Upon your arrival at Chalet Lac de Vonnes, in Chatel, you are greeted with champagne & canapés in front of the log fire, whilst your bags are being unloaded from our Private Minibus.
Following this we will take you to the ski shop to collect your equipment hire, bringing it back to the chalet for you making this hassle free. Your ski passes would have already been organised and therefore no queuing for you, just straight out and onto the lifts in the morning. If you requested lessons or childcare this would have also been pre-arranged and we will make sure you get there in our Private Minibus each morning. If you require our services to guide you around the area we will gladly accommodate this task… Finally, at the end of each day, you can ski back to the chalet within 300m or we will collect you from the slopes in our private minibus. We have also been known to guide you to the après ski bars also, assuming you can wait for the Hot Tub and Bubbly till later!
Assuming your group are intermediate skiers or above, we have the ability to arrange après ski in a traditional mountain bar followed by a Torch Light descent once it is dark back to the chalet, making your ski experience here in Chatel unique.
Other activities for those not skiing include snow shoeing and ice skating or pottering around the village of Chatel which is a delightful French village with charm and character. Access to the slopes to meet up with skiers at restaurants and bars for lunch etc is ea sy to do. If you have a vehicle with you, then going to Thermal Baths and places of interest are also an option.
